The buyout of the property in 2012 was initiated by a group of shareholders, including Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Alain Garitey.

History and Philosophy

The Château Belle Assise Coureau estate was acquired by the Brun family in the 19th century. In 2012, it was taken over by a consortium of shareholders, including former racing driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise (who passed away in 2015) and Alain Garitey, with operations officially commencing in 2013. Château Belle Assise Coureau is committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, as demonstrated by its Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

The Vineyard (Terroir)

The vineyard of Château Belle Assise Coureau covers an area of 14 hectares, with vines averaging 25 years of age. The grape varieties are planted to 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The soil type is described as "Jüngste ernst" (young gravel). Harvesting is carried out mechanically.

Flagship Cuvées

The estate produces a flagship cuvée named Les Grands Ormes. This still red wine, crafted from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is matured using 30% new oak barrels and 70% barrels of one wine or more. Average annual production is estimated at 80,000 bottles.

Vinification at Château Belle Assise Coureau relies on various types of vats, including oak barrels, concrete, and stainless steel. For ageing, 30% of the wines are aged in new oak barrels and 70% in barrels of one wine or more.
