Identity

Château Larmande is a Grand Cru Classé located in Saint-Émilion. It is owned by the AG2R La Mondiale group. Véronique Corporandy serves as cellar master and commercial relations manager, under the general management of Bertrand de Villaines. Olivier Brunel is the estate's vineyard manager.

History and philosophy

Château Larmande is one of the Bordeaux vineyard's historic properties, with documented origins dating back to 1585. The estate was acquired in 1991 by the AG2R La Mondiale group. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture and holds High Environmental Value certification (HVE 3).

Appellations

Château Larmande produces wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation.

The tasting boutique is open Monday to Friday, from 09:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:30.

The estate offers tours and tastings for individual visitors and wine trade professionals, including sensory workshops and introductory tasting sessions. Open days are held during the first weekend of May. Individual tours are priced at €15 per person. The château also provides event spaces for receptions, weddings, and corporate seminars, offering two function rooms, a cellar, a terrace, and parkland capable of hosting up to 140 guests. The estate is wheelchair accessible and has dedicated on-site parking.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Larmande vineyard extends over 20 contiguous hectares on the northern slopes of Saint-Émilion. The soils consist of clay-limestone, clay-silica, and sand. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (65–70%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (25–30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The average age of the vines is around 30 years. The Saint-Émilion winegrowing region is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Flagship cuvées

The estate's principal wine is Château Larmande. It is a red wine crafted primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The property's second wine is Le Cadet de Larmande. The estate also produces a cuvée named Château Vieux Larmande.

Vinification and ageing

Harvesting is carried out by hand, followed by optical sorting. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled, cuboid stainless-steel vats. A cold pre-fermentation maceration is carried out, followed by fermentation in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation in barrels. Ageing lasts between 14 and 18 months, predominantly in French oak barrels (60% new oak and 40% one-wine barrels), with a portion aged in terracotta amphorae.
