Identity

Château Roumieu, sometimes known under the name Château Roumieu-Lacoste, is a winegrowing estate located in Barsac, in Gironde. The estate is currently managed by Vincent Craveia. Hervé Dubourdieu is also listed as an owner.

History and philosophy

The family has owned the estate since the early 18th century. Current owner Vincent Craveia arrived in 2009. The winemaking philosophy centres on crafting powerful, unctuous sweet wines driven by intense botrytis concentration.

Château Roumieu produces wines under the Sauternes appellation.

Flagship wines

The wines are renowned for their concentrated expression of botrytis and aromatic richness, characterised by powerful sweetness and depth. Ageing can be extensive, sometimes lasting up to four years in seasoned oak barrels, followed by refinement in the cellar.

Winemaking and ageing

The wines are aged in seasoned barrels and undergo extended refinement in the cellar. Certain cuvées have benefited from up to four years of ageing. Annual production reaches approximately 40,000 bottles.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard covers a total area of 15 hectares, with an average vine age of around 50 years. The grape varieties are dominated by Sémillon at 89%, complemented by 10% Sauvignon blanc and 1% Muscadelle. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand. The estate is committed to sustainable viticulture (agriculture raisonnée) and does not purchase external grapes.
