The name Clos Fourtet derives from "Camp Fourtet", a fortified stronghold that protected Saint-Émilion during the Middle Ages. The estate was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 2012, a status it continues to hold.

The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard covers a planted area of 18 hectares, with vines averaging around 25 years of age. It is situated primarily on a clay-limestone plateau. At the surface, the soils are limestone, underlain by sand and clay. Harvesting is carried out by hand using small crates. The estate holds Haute Valeur Environnementale certification.
The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (85%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).

The estate's grand vin is Clos Fourtet. The property also produces a second wine, La Closerie de Fourtet.
Vinification and ageing
