Château Guillaume is a winegrowing estate located in Eynesse, in the Gironde département.

History and philosophy

The origin of the name Château Guillaume is associated with Guillaume Blanc, who was consul of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande in the 16th century. The Picon estate, also linked to the château, is documented as early as the 11th century.

The estate produces wines under the Bordeaux Supérieur and Côtes-de-Duras appellations.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard spans an area of 81 hectares. It is located in north-eastern Entre-deux-Mers, near Sainte-Foy-la-Grande. Certain plots, such as the Les Roques vineyard, sit on the Loubès plateau and rise to an altitude of 175 metres. The recorded soil types include south-east-facing clay-limestone plateaux and limestone plateaux. The grape varieties grown include Merlot and Cabernet (Cabernet Sauvignon and other Cabernet varieties).

• CHÂTEAU LES GRANDS BRIANDS: This still red wine is crafted under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation.
• CHÂTEAU LES ROQUES: This cuvée is a still red wine from the Côtes-de-Duras appellation. It is predominantly composed of Merlot (60%) and Cabernet. The vineyard associated with this cuvée features south-east-facing clay-limestone soils.
• CHÂTEAU GUILLAUME BLANC Cuvée du consul Élevé en fût de chêne: A still red wine in the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, blended from Merlot and Cabernets.
• CHÂTEAU PICON Vin du Roy: A still red wine produced under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation.
• CHÂTEAU PICON Cuvée Louis: This still red wine from the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation is crafted mainly from Merlot and Cabernets.

Vinification and ageing

Certain cuvées from the estate benefit from oak barrel ageing. For the CHÂTEAU LES ROQUES cuvée, ageing continues for ten months in barrel. The CHÂTEAU GUILLAUME BLANC Cuvée du consul is also aged in oak barrels.
