The Terroir

The Bordeaux Supérieur appellation spans the entire Bordeaux vineyard region. Its vineyards are established across diverse terroirs, frequently situated on hillsides or plateaux. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone, clay-gravel, or sandy-gravel, providing optimal conditions for viticulture. These geographical locations ensure excellent sun exposure and natural drainage, both of which are essential for ripening red grape varieties.

The Wines

Bordeaux Supérieur wines are exclusively red. The permitted grape varieties are mainly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, which may be complemented in smaller proportions by Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carménère. These wines are distinguished by their structure, aromatic intensity, and ageing potential. They offer a classic expression of Bordeaux wines, with red and black fruit notes often enhanced by spicy or oaky nuances, depending on the ageing process.
