History and philosophy

Domaine Guillemot-Michel was founded in 1985 by Marc Guillemot and Pierrette Michel in the commune of Clessé. It includes old vines situated in the hamlet of Quintaine. Sophie Guillemot joined the estate in 2013.

Appellations

Château Guillemot produces wines under the Saint-Émilion appellation. Domaine Pierre Guillemot offers wines under the Bourgogne and Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune appellations. Domaine Guillemot-Michel also produces wines under the Viré-Clessé appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)

Château Guillemot cultivates a single-block 9-hectare vineyard. The average vine age is 30 years. The soils are clay-limestone, and the plots benefit from a south-facing exposure. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (85%), complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Vineyard management is tailored plot by plot according to vine age and specific soil requirements. For Domaine Pierre Guillemot, the planted surface covers 10 hectares, with 8 hectares planted to red varieties and 2 hectares to white. The average vine age there is 65 years, and harvesting is carried out by hand. Meanwhile, Domaine Guillemot-Michel has 6.5 hectares under vine, entirely dedicated to white varieties, with an average vine age of 60 years. This estate is certified Organic and holds the HVE certification.

Key cuvées

The flagship cuvée of Château Guillemot, named Château Guillemot, is crafted from a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2020 vintage of this cuvée is renowned for its ageing potential of around 15 years and its harmonious structure, typical of warm and dry vintages. Domaine Guillemot-Michel offers several cuvées, including a white cuvée named Quintaine, made predominantly from Chardonnay. They also produce a cuvée called Une Bulle, as well as barrel-aged spirits such as Marc and Fine de Bourgogne. Domaine Pierre Guillemot offers red and white cuvées under the Bourgogne appellation.

Vinification and ageing

Vineyard work follows an approach tailored to the distinct characteristics of each plot. For the Quintaine cuvée from Domaine Guillemot-Michel, harvesting is carried out by hand.
