Château Preuillac is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Lesparre-Médoc, in Gironde. The property is managed by Jean-Christophe Mau, with technical management overseen by Nathalie Billard.

History and philosophy

Château Preuillac was acquired in 1998. During the 1980s, the estate underwent extensive restoration. A major renovation was carried out in 2019, covering the vat room, the main entrance, the barrel cellar, and the harvest reception area. A new tasting room was also introduced.

Appellations

Château Preuillac produces wines under the Médoc appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Preuillac vineyard covers 30 hectares in a single continuous plot. The average age of the vines is 43 years. The soils comprise sandy, sandy-gravel, and clay-limestone parcels. The grape varieties planted include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Signature cuvées

The estate's main cuvée is Château Preuillac, a still red wine. The property also produces a second wine named L'Esprit de Preuillac.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification of Château Preuillac takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats. Extraction is performed via punch-downs (pigeage) and pump-overs (remontage). Malolactic fermentation occurs in wooden vats. Ageing lasts 12 months in French oak barrels. The vat room houses wooden vats with an average capacity of 160 hl and 7 stainless-steel vats ranging from 25 to 50 hl. The barrel cellar can accommodate 300 barrels and is fitted with an air-displacement system to regulate temperature and humidity.
