Château Roc de Cambes is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Bourg sur Gironde, in Gironde. It is owned by SCEA Famille Mitjavile, managed by Nina Mitjavile.

History and philosophy

Château Roc de Cambes was acquired by the Mitjavile family in 1988. The estate boasts historic facilities, including cellars dating back to the 14th century. The viticultural philosophy focuses on permanent grass cover across the plots and sustainable farming practices (lutte raisonnée).

Appellations

The plots of Château Roc de Cambes are located in the Blayais and Bourgeais sub-region, with the main appellation produced being Côtes de Bourg.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Roc de Cambes vineyard covers a total area of 12 hectares. The vines are planted on amphitheatre-like hillsides and benefit from clay-limestone soils. The average age of the vines is around 40 years. The grape varieties include Merlot (between 75% and 80% depending on the source), Cabernet Sauvignon (between 15% and 20%), and Malbec (5%). Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Flagship cuvées

The estate's primary cuvée is Château Roc de Cambes, a red wine distinguished by its structure and aromatic profile. The estate also produces a second wine, Domaine de Cambes.

Vinification and ageing

Ageing is carried out in a traditional manner, using oak barrels from the Radoux cooperage. Annual production is around 47,000 bottles.
