The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Rocheyron vineyard extends over 8.45 hectares, with 8 hectares planted to red grape varieties. It is characterised by red and brown clay soils over Asteria limestone (calcaire à astéries), as well as clay-limestone soils on molasse du Fronsadais. The estate's limestone plateau dates back to the Lower Oligocene. The vines have an average age of around 50 years. The grape varieties consist of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The average yield is 30 hectolitres per hectare. Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Flagship cuvées

Château Rocheyron produces a principal red wine. The estate also offers a second wine, named La Fleur de Rocheyron. These wines are distinguished by gentle vinification at low temperatures.

Vinification and ageing

The wines are vinified in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Ageing lasts approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, with a breakdown of 30% new oak barrels, 60% one-wine-and-older barrels, and 10% in other ageing vessels.
