Château Clos Hortense is located in the commune of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes. It was acquired in 2002 by Vignobles Lavau and in 2019 by Château Petit Val. Benjamin joined the estate in 2019.
History and philosophy
Establishment on the original property took place in 1983. In 2019, the initial lease was not renewed. Vignobles Lavau highlight expertise passed down through several generations and a commitment to traditional winegrowing practices.

Château Clos Hortense produces wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation over an area of 2.20 hectares. The estate also produces Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux wines across 13.10 hectares.

The grape variety mix for the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation includes Merlot (50%), Cabernet Franc (25%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%). For the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, the dominant grape variety is Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec.

Vinification and ageing
For the prestige cuvée of Château Clos Hortense, ageing is carried out with 75% in new oak barrels (French, American, and Eastern European oak) and 25% in vats. The classic Château Clos Hortense cuvée is aged in stainless steel vats.
