The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard of Château Ségur de Cabanac covers an area of 7 hectares, planted exclusively with red grape varieties. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted on a gravel ridge overlooking the Gironde Estuary, to the east of the commune of Saint-Estèphe. The gravelly soil provides an ideal terroir for winegrowing. The grape varieties consist of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The vineyard is managed using double Guyot pruning, alongside practices such as manual leaf thinning and green harvesting before veraison. The estate also follows sustainable viticulture principles (lutte raisonnée). Harvesting is carried out by hand.
Flagship cuvées
Château Ségur de Cabanac offers a main cuvée named Ségur de Cabanac and a second wine, Les Hauts de Cabanac. The estate produces exclusively red wines. Annual production stands at approximately 40,000 bottles.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification at Château Ségur de Cabanac takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The maceration period lasts around three weeks. Ageing takes 20 months, with a 30% renewal of new oak barrels.
