Identity
Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu is a winegrowing estate located in Bommes, in the Gironde department. The estate is managed by the Charrier family, with Christophe Charrier overseeing the vineyard and winemaking, Alexis Charrier handling sales and communications, and Marie Josèphe Charrier in charge of administration and visitor hospitality.
History and Philosophy
The history of Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu dates back to 1782 with the founding of Domaine de Carbonnieu. The Charrier family has been dedicated to the estate for several generations. Daniel Courbin, great-grandfather of the current managers, pioneered estate bottling as early as 1929. Domaine de Carbonnieu was renamed Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu in 2020. In 2007, the second wine, “Reflets de Carbonnieu”, was launched. In 2014, Alain Charrier handed over the estate to his sons, ensuring family continuity. The property perpetuates a proud tradition of passing knowledge down from father to son.

Official estate websiteThe Vineyard (Terroir)
The Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu vineyard covers an area of 23 hectares, divided into approximately 90 parcels. The vines are planted across the communes of Bommes and Preignac. The estate’s soils are composed of gravel, clay, and sand. The grape variety distribution is dominated by Sémillon (90%), complemented by 7% Sauvignon and 3% Muscadelle.
Signature Cuvées
The estate produces several cuvées, including the “Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu (Sélection Prestige)”. Aged in barrels for one year, this wine is distinguished by its aromatic complexity and sweetness balanced by a touch of acidity. It is available in standard 75 cl bottles, 37.5 cl half-bottles, and 150 cl magnums.
The “Cuvée Courbin” is a tribute to Daniel Courbin. This cuvée is aged predominantly in new oak barrels, with a production of around 300 bottles.
The estate also produces a second wine, “Reflets de Carbonnieu”. “Reflets de notre Ciron” is a lighter, fresher Sauternes, ideal as an aperitif and aged in tanks.
Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu also offers alternative packaging formats, such as 3-litre Bag-in-Box and 6 cl Wine-in-Tube formats. The Sauternes Charrier-Carbonnieu Bag-in-Box retains its quality for approximately two months after opening.
Vinification and Ageing
The vinification of the wines at Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu incorporates ageing in both tanks and barrels. The “Domaine Charrier-Carbonnieu (Sélection Prestige)” cuvée is aged in barrels for one year, while the “Cuvée Courbin” is aged mainly in new oak barrels. “Reflets de notre Ciron” is aged in tanks.
