Château Barreyre is recorded in parish registers as far back as the 17th century, with an inscription dating from 1646 on one of its buildings. A stone well was constructed in 1737, and a vat room was built in 1924.
Like many other estates in the region, the property previously belonged to prominent Bordeaux bourgeois families. The vineyard and the cellar were renovated during the 2000s. In 2014, Château Barreyre was acquired by Vignobles Gonfrier. The estate is committed to sustainable viticulture, as shown by its Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) certifications, the latter awarded by Ecovadis. The estate is also in conversion to organic farming.

Winemaking and ageing

Ageing for the red wines generally takes place in French oak barrels for 8 months. For certain cuvées, barrel ageing can last up to fifteen months.

Another cuvée is Château Barreyre Cuvée Tradition Élevé en fût de chêne, whose blend for older vintages was composed of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet, with a limited production of 13,000 bottles. For the 2005 vintage, it comprised 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet.
The estate has also produced a white wine under the Bordeaux appellation, with 4,600 bottles made for the 2003 vintage, predominantly from Merlot.
