History and philosophy
The estate has been managed by the Lafon family for several generations, following the acquisition of the property in 1967. Vignobles Denis Lafon expanded their activity over time. In 2025, the estate was acquired by the group La Chartreuse de Mazerolles. Château du Grand Barrail is committed to organic viticulture, as attested by its Agriculture Biologique certification.

Vinification and ageing

La région aide au rachat de deux châteaux bordelais
Le fonds régional VitiREV Terradev, coordonné par la Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine, a pris une participation dans la société la Chartreuse de Mazerolles, dirigée par Paul Guillet, un néo-vigneron. Cette opération, la première pour VitiREV Terradev dans la région bordelaise, vise à soutenir le développement d'un groupe viticole dans l'appellation Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. Paul Guillet, qui a fait carrière dans les nouvelles technologies et la commercialisation de vins, avait acquis le Château Mazerolles en 2023, un domaine de 10 hectares en AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. En septembre 2025, il a finalisé l'acquisition de deux nouvelles propriétés viticoles bio emblématiques de l’appellation, le Château Bellevue et le Château du Grand Barrail, toutes deux situées à Plassac en Gironde. L'entrée au capital de VitiREV Terradev doit permettre d'accélérer le développement commercial du groupe de Paul Guillet, notamment à l'international, et de poursuivre les engagements agroécologiques des domaines repris. Rodolphe Herbelin, directeur général délégué d’Acer Finance et en charge de la gestion opérationnelle du fonds, a souligné que cet investissement reflète l'engagement de soutenir des projets portés par des acteurs régionaux dynamiques. Paul Guillet a quant à lui affirmé que cet investissement lui donne les moyens de mettre en œuvre sa stratégie de développement, en conciliant croissance et engagements agroécologiques.
