History and Philosophy

Château Mondesir-Gazin is a winegrowing estate whose recent history has been marked by several stages. Marc Pasquet had settled there as a winegrower-owner in 1990.

In 2022, the estate was acquired by Patricia and Jean-Pierre Simon, for whom this vintage was the first under their ownership.

As early as 2006, Château Mondesir-Gazin embarked on a conversion process to organic winegrowing, leading to its certification. This philosophy is reflected in environmentally friendly viticultural practices, such as the integration of cover crop sowing in the vineyards since autumn 2022.

The estate also benefits from the expertise of consulting oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, who provides technical support.

The Appellations

Château Mondesir-Gazin produces red and white wines under the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.

Furthermore, some of the estate's red cuvées are also produced within the framework of the Côtes de Bourg appellation. The plots contributing to these different appellations are all located in the commune of Plassac.

Winemaking and Ageing

The winemaking for red wines is carried out using equipment combining concrete vats and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. After mechanical harvesting and rigorous sorting at the estate, the grapes are transferred by gravity into these vats. Manual punching down is a practice employed to optimise extraction.

For white wines, harvesting is carried out manually; the grapes are transported in crates to a cold room for rapid cooling. They then undergo gentle pressing before winemaking in concrete vats. Ageing then continues in 400-litre oak barrels.

The ageing of the wines, whether red or white, takes place in a cellar dedicated to barrels, where French oak is preferred. The duration of this ageing is variable, generally ranging from 6 to 15 months, and can extend up to 22 months for certain cuvées. Sulphite dosages are reduced to the strict minimum during winemaking, and a specific cuvée is even produced without any added sulphites.

The Cuvée Bardon is another red wine from the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. It notably stands out for its 100% Malbec grape variety composition for certain vintages, producing a wine of notable intensity.

In the Côtes de Bourg appellation, the estate produces the Cuvée Haut Mondésir, a red wine where Merlot is dominant, complemented by Malbec, characterised by a structure and depth acquired during its ageing.

A specific cuvée, Chante-Alouette, is also offered in Côtes de Bourg. It is a natural wine, made without added sulphites, reflecting a minimalist winemaking approach.

Château Mondesir-Gazin also produces a still white wine under the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, resulting from a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, offering freshness and balance.
