Château L'Enclos is located in Pomerol, in the Gironde département. It has been owned by Denise and Stephen Adams since 2007. The technical team includes Stéphane Derenoncourt and Gilles Pauquet as consultant oenologists, Stéphane Krochmaluk as cellar master, and Jean-Christophe Meyrou as estate manager.
History and philosophy
Château L'Enclos was founded at the end of the 19th century by Pierre Larroucaud. Its name derives from an important plot on the estate. In 2007, the property was acquired by Denise and Stephen Adams. The estate achieved organic farming certification in 2017 and is also certified by Ecocert. It was further awarded biodynamic certification by Biodyvin in 2025.

The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard of Château L'Enclos covers an area of 10 hectares, with 9 hectares under vine. It is situated on the western slope of the Pomerol appellation, near the château, and includes plots close to Vieux Certan. The vineyard is composed of 38 parcels. The soils are gravelly and silica-clay over a subsoil rich in iron pan (crasse de fer). Planting density stands at 6,000 vines per hectare, with an average vine age of 35 years. The grape varieties grown are Merlot (75% to 80% depending on sources), Cabernet Franc (18% to 20%), and Malbec (2% to 5%). The vines are farmed by hand, following a plot-by-plot selection approach. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand.
Signature cuvées
The red wine of Château L'Enclos is crafted from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, with Merlot forming the backbone of the blend. This wine is defined by a structure that offers an ageing potential ranging from 5 to 20 years. Average annual production is around 30,000 bottles.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification takes place in wooden, stainless steel, and concrete vats. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels. Approximately 40% of the barrels are new, with the remainder consisting of one-year-old oak.
