Terroir

Located on the Right Bank of the Dordogne, the Pomerol appellation covers the commune of the same name, just west of Saint-Émilion. The vineyard sits on a plateau of varied soils, primarily composed of gravel, sand and clay, with a notable layer of iron-rich clay. This geological composition contributes to the richness and complexity of the wines produced, offering ideal conditions for Merlot to ripen.

The wines

Pomerol is exclusively dedicated to the production of red wines. Merlot is the predominant grape variety, often complemented by Cabernet Franc and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Sauvignon. These blends yield deeply coloured wines characterised by red and dark fruit aromas, frequently accompanied by spicy or forest floor notes. On the palate, they reveal a silky texture, fine tannins and impressive length. The appellation has no official classification.

Food pairings

Thanks to their elegance and structure, Pomerol wines pair beautifully with a wide range of culinary creations. They traditionally complement roasted red meats or dishes served with rich sauces, such as duck breast or rack of lamb. They also pair wonderfully with feathered game and truffle-infused dishes. Their suppleness even allows pairings with selected mature soft cheeses, enhancing their complexity without overwhelming their nuances.

Journées Portes Ouvertes Pomerol les 15 et 16 novembre 2025

Les Journées Portes Ouvertes Pomerol auront lieu les samedi 15 et dimanche 16 novembre 2025, de 10h à 18h, offrant une opportunité de découvrir le vignoble de l'appellation Pomerol. L'événement, sponsorisé par le Syndicat Viticole de Pomerol, proposera des dégustations, visites de chais, animations pour adultes et enfants, ainsi que la présence de food trucks. L'École du Vin de Bordeaux animera des initiations gratuites à la dégustation. Un jeu-concours sera organisé, permettant de gagner des magnums et caisses de grands crus de Pomerol, en faisant tamponner un fascicule dans trois zones différentes du circuit des domaines participants. Vingt-six châteaux ouvriront leurs portes, parmi lesquels le Clos du Beau Père, Château Beauregard, Château Bellegrave, Château Bourgneuf, Château La Croix, Château La Croix de Gay, Clos Cyren-Decoly, Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres, Château Fayat, Château Ferrand, Château Feytit-Clinet, Château Franc Maillet, Château Grand Beauséjour, Château Les Grands Sillons, Château Lafleur du Roy, Château Mazeyres, Clos du Pèlerin, Château Plince, Château La Pointe, Clos René, Château La Rose Figeac, Château de Sales, Château du Tailhas, Château Taillefer, Château Toulifaut et Château de Valois. Certains châteaux proposeront des animations spécifiques, comme Château Beauregard avec un stand artisanal, Château Fayat avec une course d'orientation pour enfants, Château Ferrand avec des dégustations de vieux millésimes, Château Les Grands Sillons avec de la réalité virtuelle et un stand artisanal, Château Mazeyres avec une découverte de la biodynamie, Château La Pointe avec des animations artisanales et des visites commentées, Château Taillefer avec un bar à vin éphémère, Château Toulifaut avec une exposition de voitures de prestige et Château de Valois avec des dégustations à l'amphore et à la barrique sur réservation. Le Syndicat Viticole exposera également l'Ecomusée du Libournais. Des restaurants comme La Table de Catusseau, Les Platanes et De la Terre au Verre accueilleront les visiteurs sur réservation pour le déjeuner. L'abus d'alcool est dangereux pour la santé, à consommer avec modération.
