History and Philosophy

Château La Confession was created in 2001 by combining parcels from Château Barreau and Château Haut-Pontet. This estate is one of the properties managed by Jean-Philippe Janoueix.

The Vineyard (Terroir)

The vineyard of Château La Confession covers approximately 7 to 7.5 hectares. It is situated on a high clay-limestone plateau with sandy-clay soils. The average vine age is 41 years. The grape variety mix comprises Merlot (between 66% and 71%), Cabernet Franc (between 27% and 32%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%). Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Vinification and Ageing

For Château La Confession, grapes are hand-harvested and vinified as whole bunches, with fermentation taking place in new oak barrels. Ageing lasts 18 months, combining barrels and amphorae. For the second wine, Château Haut-Pontet, ageing takes place in new oak barrels and concrete vats. The estate uses concrete and wooden vats, and wine ageing may involve 50% new oak barrels and 50% one-wine-and-older barrels. Some ageing is also carried out in "cigar-shaped" barrels.
