Château Lamartine is located in the commune of Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguille, in the Gironde department. The estate is owned by Jérôme Gourraud. The name “Lamartine” is derived from the estate's lieu-dit, potentially referencing a visit by the poet Alphonse de Lamartine.
History and Philosophy
The estate was acquired by Mr Gilbert Gourraud in 1977, with an initial vineyard surface of approximately 4 hectares. Jérôme Gourraud took over the management of the estate in 1990. The facilities have evolved over time, with cellar renovations beginning in 1986, followed by the construction of an ageing cellar in 2002 and a vinification cellar in 2008. Château Lamartine practises sustainable viticulture (viticulture raisonnée), rooted in the close observation of the vine, soil, and climate, prioritising respect for the fruit and avoiding heavy extraction.

The Vineyard (Terroir)
The vineyard of Château Lamartine has expanded steadily, growing from its initial 4 hectares in 1977 to 17.5 hectares in 1999, and exceeding 19 hectares by 2014. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone. The grape variety plantings are dominated by Merlot (81%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Malbec (93% - figure to be verified as it appears inconsistent with the other percentages), and Tannat (4%).

The estate offers several cuvées, including the classic Château Lamartine and specific selections such as L'Excellence de Château Lamartine and Château Lamartine "Hommage". The red wines of Château Lamartine generally display a balanced structure and are crafted with good cellaring potential while remaining approachable in their youth.
Vinification and Ageing
Vinification at Château Lamartine includes grape sorting and temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation. Pigeage (punching down of the cap) is carried out, and maceration lasts around three weeks. The classic Château Lamartine cuvée is aged in vats. The "Hommage" and "L'Excellence" cuvées are aged in Burgundy barrels, with a 12-month barrel-ageing period for certain cuvées, using 40% new oak.
