Estate Overview

Château Magnaudeix is a family-owned winegrowing estate deeply rooted in the Bordeaux wine landscape. Today, the property is run by Romain Magnaudeix and Guillaume Bruny. Romain Magnaudeix manages viticulture and winemaking, while Guillaume Bruny oversees sales and wine tourism. Catherine Bruny, partnered with her brother Jean-Pierre Magnaudeix since 1988, contributes to the administrative and commercial management of the estate. Jean-Pierre Magnaudeix, representing the fifth generation of winegrowers, handles the technical vineyard operations. The estate is located in Saint-Émilion.

History and Philosophy

Château Magnaudeix has been a family estate for six generations, with origins dating back to 1840. Catherine Bruny joined the family property in 1986 and went into partnership with her brother Jean-Pierre Magnaudeix in 1988. Romain Magnaudeix, after earning his BTS Viticulture-Œnologie in 2006, joined the estate in 2008 and is a member of the Jurade de Saint-Emilion. Guillaume Bruny, representing the sixth generation, joined the team in 2019. In 2013, the vat room underwent a full renovation. The estate is committed to sustainable viticulture and achieved Level 3 HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification in 2018.

The Appellations

The vineyard parcels at Château Magnaudeix produce wines under the Saint-Émilion and Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellations. Its portfolio includes Saint-Émilion Grand Cru cuvées such as Ma Agnus Deï, Le Tertre de Sarpe Saint Emilion, Vieux Château Pelletan, and Château Vieux Larmande.

Visitor Information

Guillaume Bruny manages wine tourism at the estate, having designed an educational and sensory visitor experience. Château Magnaudeix offers tour-and-tasting visits lasting around 45 minutes, hosted by a member of the family and including the tasting of four wines. The estate buildings form an authentic, picturesque hamlet.

The Vineyard (Terroir)

The Château Magnaudeix vineyard spans 11 hectares. It is planted on silica-clay soils on the sunny heights of the Saint-Émilion area. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The estate practices sustainable agriculture.

Signature Cuvées

Château Magnaudeix crafts several cuvées, including:

• Ma Agnus Deï (Saint-Émilion Grand Cru)
• Le Tertre de Sarpe (Saint-Émilion Grand Cru): This wine reveals expressive fruit and fine aromatic complexity led by red berries. It is characterised by power, a round and silky palate, impressive length, and a harmonious finish, delivering plenty of roundness and charm.
• Vieux Château Pelletan (Saint-Émilion Grand Cru)
• Château Vieux Larmande (Saint-Émilion Grand Cru): This cuvée was honoured among the "Coups de Cœur 2023" of the Vins de Saint-Emilion.

Vinification and Ageing

Ageing takes place in oak barrels for an average period of 12 months. The underground barrel cellar maintains optimal temperature and humidity levels naturally. The estate uses a mix of new, one-year-old, and two-year-old barrels for maturation.
