Château Pillebois is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Saint-Magne-de-Castillon.
History and philosophy
The estate was acquired in 1986 by Marcel Petit. In 1998, Jean-Pierre Toxé took over the helm of the property. Château Pillebois practices environmentally friendly viticulture that respects both terroir and people. This approach is notably reflected in targeted vineyard treatments against downy mildew, using the precise dosages required for HVE3 certification. Weed control is carried out mechanically without the use of chemicals.

Winemaking and ageing
The wines are aged in vats and oak barrels. For the « Vieilles Vignes Vieilli en fût de chêne » cuvée, barrel ageing is documented over a period of one year.
Practical information
Château Pillebois is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00, and Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00; however, contacting the estate beforehand to arrange a tasting or direct cellar-door purchase is recommended. The tasting room is closed on certain bank holidays. Tastings and on-site sales are available.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Pillebois vineyard covers an area of 11 hectares. It is planted on sandy-gravel soils that encourage early grape ripening. Geologically, the terroir is a natural extension of the foot-of-slope terroirs of Saint-Émilion. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (80%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (20%).
Flagship cuvées
Château Pillebois crafts a red vin de garde under the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The cuvée « Vieilles Vignes Vieilli en fût de chêne » is a prime example of the wines produced at the estate. The wine is aged in both vats and oak barrels.
