Identity

Château Pontac-Lynch is located in the commune of Margaux-Cantenac. It is currently owned by Thierry and Valentine Falleur. Marie-Christine Bondon serves as cellar master and estate manager, while Frédéric Godart is the vineyard manager.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Pontac-Lynch dates back to the 18th century. A certain Monsieur de Pontac is said to have given his name to part of the property. The current château was partly built in the 18th century, with additions made in the 19th century. The estate has changed hands several times over the centuries, notably passing to Thomas-Michel Lynch, whose name is now associated with that of Pontac. Recorded past owners include Alphonse de Bourran in 1850, Eyrem in 1868, Lafon in 1881, and Alexandre Feuillerat in 1893. The Bondon family acquired the estate in 1952. Château Pontac-Lynch is classified as a Cru Bourgeois.

The estate's principal cuvée is Château Pontac-Lynch, a red wine. An average of approximately 50,000 bottles are produced each year.

The tasting room is open on Mondays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. A picnic area is available, and accessibility is provided for people with reduced mobility. Card payments are accepted.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Pontac-Lynch vineyard spans an area of 10 hectares. The soils are composed of gravel and limestone. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (45%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate practises sustainable viticulture (lutte raisonnée), and harvesting is carried out by hand. In 2013, a conversion to organic viticulture was being considered.

Vinification and ageing

In the cellar, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats. The wines are aged in oak barrels.
