Margaux

Terroir

The Margaux appellation is one of the six communal appellations of the Médoc, situated on the Left Bank of the Gironde. Its terroir features gravel soils composed of rounded pebbles and clay-limestone sands. Deep and well-draining, these gravels encourage the vines to root deeply, contributing to the finesse of the wines produced in this iconic Bordeaux region.

The wines

Margaux wines are predominantly reds, crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grape varieties. They are distinguished by their elegance, aromatic complexity and fine tannic structure. Margaux is the only Médoc appellation to boast 21 crus classés from the 1855 classification, including the illustrious Château Margaux, a Premier Cru Classé.

Food pairings

Thanks to their finesse and ageing potential, Margaux wines pair beautifully with sophisticated dishes. They are an ideal match for roasted red meats or meats in rich sauces, such as beef fillet or feathered game. Mature cheeses, such as Comté or Saint-Nectaire, can also be served to highlight the wine's complex aromas.
