The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard of Château Puy Descazeau covers an area of 13 hectares on silty-clay soils. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (80%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Malbec (10%). A portion of the vineyard, approximately 1.5 hectares, consists of old vines over 25 years of age. Viticultural practices focus on yield management through tailored pruning and green harvesting.
Signature cuvées
Château Puy Descazeau produces several red wine cuvées.
La Cuvée Cardinal
This cuvée is crafted from a selection of old vines and is characterised by low yields. It is aged in new oak barrels. The first certified organic vintage for this cuvée is 2024. The 2024 vintage is described as a distinctly fruity wine with a ruby robe and an alcohol level of 13% ABV.
La Cuvée JEMM
La Cuvée JEMM is a collaborative project uniting the Barbary, Berjal, and Médio families. Made from 100% Merlot, it is entirely vinified in new oak barrels, where it undergoes two years of ageing. The cuvée is named after the initials of Justine, Élise, Manon, and Martin, representing the youngest generation of the families involved.
La Cuvée Tradition
La Cuvée Tradition is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is aged on the lees in stainless steel tanks.
