Identity

Château Saint-Aubin is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac, producing red wine. It is classified as a Cru Bourgeois.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Saint-Aubin dates back to the 13th century, with the presence of the canons of the Abbaye de Saint Pierre en L'Isle. During the 17th century, the construction of a dyke initiated by the Duc d'Épernon and Louis XIV drained the Médoc marshes and connected the island to the mainland. The property was once owned by François de Dignac, master of 700 hectares of land and the noble residence of Saint-Aubin. Historically, the estate pursued diverse agricultural activities, including horse and livestock breeding, cereal farming, alongside viticulture. During the French Revolution, the estate was broken up and sold at auction, and the château was temporarily turned into a women's prison. Château Saint-Aubin remains a family-run property to this day.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Saint-Aubin vineyard covers just over 22 hectares. The soils are composed of sandy gravel. The grape varieties planted include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

Flagship cuvées

The estate primarily produces Château Saint-Aubin. The wines generally display deep, brilliant colours. On the nose, they reveal aromas of ripe black and red fruits (blackcurrant, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, redcurrant, plum), often complemented by spicy notes (pepper, liquorice), floral touches (violet), as well as oaky (toast, vanilla, cocoa, hazelnut) and mineral nuances. On the palate, the wine is frequently described as round, generous and fruity, boasting fine structure and smooth, silky tannins, culminating in a lush, lingering finish.
