The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Suduiraut vineyard spans a total area of 92 hectares, with 91 hectares of planted vines dedicated to white wines. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The grape varieties are predominantly Sémillon (80%), complemented by Sauvignon Blanc (15%) and Sauvignon Gris (5%). A section of the vineyard earmarked for the S de Suduiraut cuvée is characterised by large pebble soils. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand.
Flagship cuvées
The estate's main cuvée is Château Suduiraut, a sweet wine that accounts for around 50% of the château's total production. The second wine, Castelnau de Suduiraut, was created in 1992. The estate also offers Les Lions de Suduiraut, a third wine whose inaugural vintage was 2009. Château Suduiraut also produces a dry white wine, Le « S » de Suduiraut, introduced with the 2006 vintage. This cuvée comes from a dedicated 7-hectare parcel and is crafted from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, with Sémillon currently accounting for 40% to 50%.
Vinification and ageing
Fermentation of Château Suduiraut wines takes place in oak barrels using indigenous yeasts. For Le « S » de Suduiraut, ageing incorporates 10% new oak. The « S » de Suduiraut cuvée is produced without chaptalisation and has no residual sugar.
