Château Vieux Pujols is a winegrowing estate owned by Frank and Robyn Walton. The property is located in Pujols, in the Gironde département.

History and philosophy

Château Vieux Pujols was acquired by Frank and Robyn Walton seven years ago, succeeding the Robin family, the estate's previous owners. The property's philosophy centres on producing wines under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation.

The wines produced by Château Vieux Pujols are crafted under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation.

Winemaking and ageing

The estate's vat room, designed by Bruno Marchand, is equipped with stainless steel tanks. These tanks feature temperature-control systems for both heating and cooling, along with computerised micro-oxygenation equipment. The estate's oenologist is Alezzandro Grancini, a graduate of the Turin wine school in Italy. The estate also receives consulting support from Vincent Rouby of the Saint-Émilion oenology laboratory.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Vieux Pujols vineyard extends across clay-limestone soils. It is situated on a ridge on the southern side of the Dordogne valley, roughly 6 kilometres from Saint-Émilion. The parcels are farmed by Christion and Florent Couderc. Part of the vineyard has been replanted, accounting for 2 hectares of young vines. The grape varieties planted are Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Flagship cuvées

Château Vieux Pujols offers several wines, including the grand vin Château Vieux Pujols and a second wine named Château La Grande Maison. The second wine is crafted to be enjoyed within five to six years of release. Château Vieux Pujols benefits from twelve to eighteen months of ageing in oak barrels.
