Domaine Baudon is located in the commune of Montagne. It is currently owned and managed by Marine and Clément.

History and philosophy

Formerly known as Domaine des Coteaux de Marigny, the estate was renamed in 1986. Marine and Clément took over the property in 2021. Their philosophy is guided by biodynamics and a deep respect for natural balance. The estate is certified organic.

Appellations

Domaine Baudon produces wines under the Montagne Saint-Émilion appellation. Certain cuvées are also crafted as Vin de France.

The tasting cellar is open by appointment year-round. Tastings are available at the property. The vineyard (terroir)

The Domaine Baudon vineyard covers 3.8 hectares, with vines averaging 40 years of age. The estate encompasses plots with predominantly clay soils, notably the Les Terres Brunes parcel, alongside limestone-rich plots such as Les Terres Blanches. The vineyard is surrounded by 3 hectares of meadows and 2 hectares of woodland, fostering biodiversity.

Viticultural practices include tilling the soil with a draught horse and sowing green manure (cereals and legumes). Herbal teas are used to care for the vines, and the estate aligns its vineyard management with lunar cycles.

The red grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (95%), complemented by Cabernet-Sauvignon (5%). For the white varieties, plantings consist of Muscadelle (30%), Camaralet (30%), and various other white varieties (10%).

Signature cuvées

Harvesting is carried out by hand. Vinification for Domaine Baudon’s cuvées involves whole bunches, driven by a philosophy of low yields to promote wine concentration and gentle extraction to refine the tannins. Ageing takes place in 225-litre and 400-litre casks. Annual production stands at around 16,000 bottles.

Also under the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation, this cuvée is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon.

Produced under the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation, this cuvée is predominantly made from Merlot.

Le Cabernet Sauvignon

A wine from the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation.

Red is Hot

A Vin de France crafted from Merlot with no added sulphites.

Vinification and ageing

Grapes are hand-harvested, and vinification is carried out with whole bunches. The estate favours low yields to achieve concentrated wines and gentle extraction to preserve the finesse of the tannins. Ageing is carried out in 225-litre and 400-litre barrels.
