The terroir

The Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation is situated on the Right Bank of the Dordogne, just north of Saint-Émilion. It is defined by rolling hillsides with soils composed primarily of clay, limestone, and gravel. This geological diversity contributes to the complexity of the wines produced. The temperate oceanic climate influences grape ripening, enhancing the expression of traditional Bordeaux grape varieties.

The wines

Montagne-Saint-Émilion produces exclusively red wines, crafted from the Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. Merlot generally dominates the blend, lending the wines a supple texture and red fruit aromas. Cabernet Franc provides structure and freshness, whilst Cabernet Sauvignon contributes power and ageing potential. These wines often display a deep colour and well-defined tannins.

Food pairings

Wines from Montagne-Saint-Émilion complement a wide range of culinary dishes. Their structure and aromatic profile make them ideal companions for red meats, whether grilled or served in a sauce. They also pair wonderfully with roast poultry, game, and mature cheeses. It is recommended to serve these wines at around 16–18°C to fully appreciate their aromatic and taste qualities.
