Château Blanzac is a winegrowing estate located in Saint-Magne-de-Castillon. The property is currently managed by Romain Depons, who represents the fourth generation of his family at the helm of the estate.

History and philosophy

The earliest records of winemaking at Château Blanzac date back to 1750. The estate was mentioned in the first edition of the Féret guide in 1850. The Depons family acquired the property in 1932 with Jean Depons. Winegrowing became the primary activity in 1951 under the stewardship of Michel Depons, who succeeded Jean Depons. A tractor was introduced in 1962 for vineyard work.

In 1973, Bernard Depons joined the estate, and in 1980, he succeeded Michel Depons alongside his wife Véronique. The 1970s also saw the creation of an equestrian centre on the property, notably fostering the development of horseball as early as 1975.

Since 2017, Romain Depons, son of Bernard and Véronique, has been at the head of Château Blanzac. He is also managing director of the vineyards owned by French aircraft manufacturer Dassault. The vineyard is managed according to sustainable viticulture principles.

The estate also produces a second wine, Cadets de Château Blanzac. It is crafted from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
