Identity

Château Le Bourdillot is a family-owned estate located in Portets, in the Gironde. The property is managed by Patrice Haverlan, representing the fourth generation of winegrowers at the helm of the estate.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Le Bourdillot began in 1906, when Jules Haverlan, originally from Arras, acquired the estate, initially located in the commune of Virelade. The property already existed and appeared on a map dating back to 1818, when it belonged to the Comte de Lych.

Over the generations, the Haverlan family continued their winegrowing commitment. Paul Haverlan, Jules's son, took over, followed by Louis Haverlan, Paul's son. In 1956, Louis Haverlan married Thérèse Laconfourque, whose family owned Domaine des Lucques in Portets. This union led to the integration of both properties into the family heritage.

Since 1986, Patrice Haverlan has led the estate, carrying forward the family legacy. Château Le Bourdillot has received several accolades, including a Magnum d'or in 1993 and the Trophée Grands Crus de Graves in 2013.

Appellations

Château Le Bourdillot produces wines under several appellations, including the Graves appellation for its red and white wines, as well as the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation for certain red wines.

Winemaking and ageing

The principal red wines, such as CHATEAU LE BOURDILLOT Graves rouge, benefit from ageing in new oak barrels. For white wines like CHATEAU LE BOURDILLOT blanc, vinification and ageing take place in barrels with regular bâtonnage on the lees.

The vinification and ageing of the Graves wines take place at the Domaine des Lucques property. The estate uses concrete vats for certain stages of the process.
