Château Corbin Michotte

Identity

Château Corbin-Michotte is a family-owned winegrowing estate located in the commune of Saint-Émilion. Jean-Noël Boidron manages and co-owns the property alongside his children Isabelle, Emmanuel and Hubert. Hubert Boidron also serves as vineyard manager and cellar master, while Jean-Noël and Hubert Boidron are the estate's oenologists.

History and Philosophy

The history of Château Corbin-Michotte dates back to the 18th century, when the Boidron family first acquired the estate. Historical records indicate that the château was once part of a vast feudal estate belonging to the Prince Noir during the English occupation. In 1959, Jean-Noël Boidron purchased the property. He undertook the complete reconstruction of the winery in 1980. The estate is committed to environmentally friendly practices, notably having never used herbicides in its vineyards. It holds HVE certification.

Appellations

The estate's parcels are predominantly located within the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. Château Corbin-Michotte is a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion. The estate also produces wines under the Pomerol appellation.

The Vineyard (Terroir)

The vineyard covers 8 hectares. It is established on remarkably uniform sandy-gravel ridges originating from a Quaternary deposit of the Isle river, with a subsoil characterised by the presence of ironpan (crasse de fer). The soil is also described as clay-limestone. The average vine age is 35 years. The grape varieties consist of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Viticultural practices include soil ploughing, severe pruning and green harvesting of late bunches one month prior to harvest. Harvesting is carried out by hand with systematic sorting.

Flagship Cuvées

The main cuvée is Château Corbin Michotte Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Emilion, a red wine true to the style of its appellation. The estate also produces another red cuvée, Château Cantelauze, under the Pomerol appellation.

Vinification and Ageing

Following hand harvesting and sorting, the wines are aged in fine-grained oak barrels.
