Identity

Château d'Osmond is a winegrowing estate located in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, in the Gironde department. It is owned by Frédéric Morlier.

History and philosophy

The estate's origins date back to plots of Domaine des Gûnes, first mentioned in 1769. Development of the present-day estate began in 1987. Château d'Osmond is classified as a Cru Artisan and is one of the 47 estates listed in this official Médoc classification. The estate is committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, holding Level 3 Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification. The transition to organic farming began in August 2022, with official organic certification expected from the 2025 vintage. The estate also holds the 'Vignobles et Découvertes' and 'Valeurs Parc naturel régional' labels, and adheres to the 'Cultivons Demain' CSR standard.

Appellations

The estate's red wines are produced under the Haut-Médoc AOC appellation. The estate also produces rosé, white, and sparkling wines under the Vin de France appellation.

Practical information

Château d'Osmond is located at 6 Rue du Général de Gaulle, 33112 Saint-Laurent-Médoc. The estate is open daily from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Free tours and tastings are available, along with walking and cycling trails. The estate also welcomes motorhomes free of charge for a few nights and features a children's play area and picnic tables. On-site tastings typically feature three wines. Languages spoken are French and English. Pets and groups are welcome, with a maximum group size of 20 people. The estate has an on-site shop, Wi-Fi, and delivery services, and accepts payment cards, bank cheques, and cash.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château d'Osmond vineyard covers an area of 10 hectares, with vines averaging 35 to 40 years of age. The soils consist of sandy-gravel and fine gravel. Planting density ranges between 7,000 and 11,000 vines per hectare. The grape varieties planted are Merlot (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (36%), Petit Verdot (7%), and Cabernet Franc (2%). The average yield is around 50 hectolitres per hectare. The vineyard borders Grand Cru plots. The estate's average annual production is between 40,000 and 50,000 bottles.

Red Wines

• Château d'Osmond, Cru Artisan, is crafted from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The 2023 vintage features a blend of 52% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The 2022 vintage is composed of 52% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, with an alcohol content of 14% ABV. The 2021 vintage combines 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The 2020 vintage is blended from 53% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. These wines deliver a well-balanced structure.

Vinification and ageing

Red wines undergo traditional vinification. The wines are aged in barrels for 12 months, with 30% new oak. The recommended serving temperature for Château d'Osmond is 17 to 18°C.
