Identity
Château Cissac is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Cissac-Médoc, in the Gironde. It is currently under the management of Marie Vialard, who is its owner and managing director. Laurent Saint-Pasteur serves as technical director.
History and philosophy
Château Cissac traces its roots back to the 19th century, formed through the consolidation of several crus. The Mondon family acquired the vineyard in 1895. Marie Vialard, representing the fifth generation of the family, took over the management of the estate in the year 2000. The property stands on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman villa, and its main building is an 18th-century chartreuse.
Château Cissac has been part of the Cru Bourgeois classification since 1932 and was recognized as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 2018. The estate has modernised its facilities since 2004, notably upgrading its vat room.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Cissac vineyard spans 50 hectares in the heart of the village of Cissac-Médoc. The soils consist of fine Garonne gravel over a clay-limestone subsoil, lending a distinctly gravelly character to the terroir.
The grape varieties planted are predominantly Cabernet-Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. For instance, the blend for a 1998 vintage was 75% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, with a touch of Petit Verdot. A 2014 vintage featured a blend of 67% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and the remainder in Merlot.

The estate's principal wine is Château Cissac, a red wine with a blend focused on Cabernet-Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and occasionally a touch of Petit Verdot. These wines are typically characterised by their structure and ageing potential.
The estate also produces a second wine, named Les Reflets du Ch. Cissac.
Vinification and ageing
The wines of Château Cissac are aged in barrels. For a 2005 vintage, ageing lasted eighteen months, using 30% new oak.
