Château Grand Corbin, a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, is owned by SMABTP. The 37-hectare winegrowing estate is HVE-certified, with grape varieties dominated by Merlot planted on silica-clay soils. It produces red wines, a second wine, as well as rosé and white cuvées.
Identity
Château Grand Corbin is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Saint-Émilion. It is owned by SMABTP, a mutual insurance company. Axel Marchal serves as consultant oenologist, alongside Managing Director Laure Canu. Marie Flandrin has been estate manager since 2025. Technical Director Grégory Thibault is also associated with Château Cantemerle.
History and philosophy
The SMABTP group acquired Château Grand Corbin in the 1980s, followed by the acquisition of Château Haut-Corbin in 2010. These two properties officially merged starting with the 2012 harvest under the single name of Château Grand Corbin. The estate joined the official Saint-Émilion classification as a Grand Cru Classé in 2012. Committed to sustainable viticulture, Château Grand Corbin is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and has taken part in the CIVB's Cultivons Demain programme since 2023.
Appellations
Château Grand Corbin produces its grand vin under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation and its second wine under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation.
Practical information
Château Grand Corbin welcomes visitors for tours and tastings by appointment from Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 18:00. Wine tastings are available on the ground floor from 11:00 to 18:00. The estate provides private, tailored tours, workshops (tastings, wine and chocolate/charcuterie pairings, vertical tastings), and hosts groups of up to 10 people. The estate features visitor parking, disabled access, and restrooms. Guided visits are available in English. Château Grand Corbin also offers 3 adult-only guest rooms in a 19th-century manor house (no televisions, no pets allowed; check-in 15:00–18:00, check-out by 11:00). Summer events include afterwork evenings and local producers' markets. Direct cellar-door sales are available, with payments accepted by debit card, cash, cheque, and American Express. The estate holds the Accueil Vélo, Scandibérique, and Vignobles et découvertes quality labels. Pets are not allowed.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Grand Corbin vineyard spans 37 hectares, of which 28.5 hectares are classified as Grand Cru Classé. The average vine age is 35 years. The terroir consists of silica-rich sands resting on beds of blue clay. The vineyard is located in the north-west of the Saint-Émilion appellation, about 3 km from the medieval town and bordering Pomerol. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (80%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (16%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (4%). The harvest is carried out by hand for the grand vin, requiring a team of around forty pickers over two to three weeks.
Key cuvées
The estate's grand vin is Château Grand Corbin. A second wine is also produced, named Les Charmes de Grand Corbin. The estate also offers dedicated cuvées: Nuances de Grand Corbin in rosé and Nuances de Grand Corbin in white. Average annual production is approximately 200,000 bottles. The red wines offer an ageing potential of 15 to 20 years and can be enjoyed from the third year following their vintage.
Vinification and ageing
Grapes are harvested by hand. The renovated gravity-fed vat room houses 20 raw concrete vats. The wines undergo ageing in French oak barrels. Around 40% of the barrels are new, with the remaining 60% being one-wine barrels or older.
