Château Lamothe de Haux is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Haux in Gironde. It is owned by the Néel-Chombart family.
History and philosophy
The estate's history has been shaped by family succession since 1956, passed down from mother to daughter. In 1991, the property expanded with the acquisition of Château Manos.
The estate has also diversified its activities. In 2020, vine plots were repurposed for truffle cultivation, yielding a first harvest in 2024. In addition, a holiday gîte opened in 2019, welcoming up to 13 guests from March to December.

The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard covers a total area of 77.2 hectares, with 36.5 hectares dedicated to red grape varieties and 40.7 hectares to white grape varieties. The vines have an average age of 30 years. The soils are characterised by a clay-limestone plateau, formed of limestone deposits dating back 30 million years. The estate also features underground cellars carved into the chalk, with galleries dating back to the 17th century that extend over more than 8 kilometres.
The grape varieties for the red wines comprise Merlot (60%), Cabernet-Sauvignon (30%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). For the white wines, the blend includes Sémillon (40%) and Muscadelle (20%).
Harvesting is carried out both by hand and by machine. The estate does not purchase external grapes.
Flagship cuvées
The estate offers a range of wines that represents the majority of its production. In 2009, Château Lamothe (white wine) was composed of 80% Sémillon, 15% Sauvignon and 5% Muscadelle.
Alongside its wines, the estate introduced a range of wine-based cocktails in 2024 named “Les Goguettes”. These low-alcohol drinks are naturally flavoured and lightly sparkling. They are available in a mojito-style white wine version and a citrus-flavoured red wine version.
