Identity

Château Lanessan is located in the commune of Cussac-Fort-Médoc. The Bouteiller family, long-standing custodians of the estate, owned it across several generations. Domaines Bouteiller is the designated contact for the property, the majority of which is now owned by Treasury Wine Estates.

History and philosophy

Château Lanessan is one of Bordeaux's historic family estates, having been managed by the same family over multiple generations. The present château was built in 1878, followed in 1883 by the construction of Château Lachesnay, designed by architect Louis-Michel Garros. Henri Duphot was the architect behind Château Lanessan. The estate is planning significant investments to renovate its buildings and expand wine tourism, including a project for a new winery.

Château Lanessan produces wines under the Haut-Médoc appellation.

Château Lanessan is located at the following address: 113 Lanessan, 33460 Cussac-Fort-Médoc. The estate can be contacted by phone on +33 5 56 58 94 80 and by email at infos@lanessan.com. The boutique is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00. From 1 May to 31 October, it is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Tours and tastings are available by prior reservation. They include a discovery of the château, the gardens, the stables, and the horse museum. Guided tasting tours are subject to a fee and feature a tasting of three wines. The estate welcomes groups (from 15 to 58 people maximum) as well as pets. Languages spoken are French, English, and Spanish. Accepted payment methods include payment cards, cheques, and cash. On-site services include a wine boutique, drive-through/collection, delivery, and Wi-Fi.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard of Château Lanessan covers a planted area of approximately 85 hectares within a total estate surface of around 350 to 390 hectares. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The red grape variety mix is dominated by Cabernet-Sauvignon (75%), complemented by Merlot (20%) and, in equal shares, Cabernet franc and Petit Verdot (5% each). Harvesting is carried out mechanically. The estate does not purchase external grapes.

Flagship cuvées

The estate offers several cuvées, including Château Lanessan, Les Calèches de Lanessan, and Château de Sainte Gemme. Annual production is approximately 250,000 bottles.
