Château Le Grand Verdus is located in Sadirac, in Gironde. It is owned by SCEA Ph. et A. Le Grix de la Salle, with Thomas and Édouard Le Grix de la Salle at the helm. Thomas Le Grix de la Salle is also the estate's winegrower and winemaker, supported by oenologist Cécile Cazaux.

The history of Château Le Grand Verdus as a family-owned estate dates back to the 16th century. The property, as it is known today, was established in 1846. The Le Grix de la Salle family is now in its fourth generation on the estate. The vineyard soils are highly limestone-rich, and the estate farms over 50 plots, managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis. The historic house sits at the top of a hill, overlooking an 80-metre elevation drop where biodiversity is remarkable. The average age of the vines is approximately 30 years. The grape variety mix for red wines consists of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Syrah. For white wines, the plantings comprise 65% Sauvignon blanc and 35% Sémillon. Harvesting is carried out both by hand and mechanically.

Key cuvées

The estate produces a diverse range of wines. Le Grand Verdus Rouge is generally crafted from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet-Sauvignon. Le Grand Verdus Rosé is composed of 50% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet-Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot. Among its unique cuvées, Essentiel is a Merlot with no added sulphur. The cuvée Vertige comes from a solera of old Sémillon vines, blended in concrete vats since 2018 with vintages spanning from 2018 to 2021. The white cuvée Petite Fleur is a Sauvignon blanc. Vinification and ageing

For Le Grand Verdus Rouge, ageing lasts between 16 and 20 months in stainless steel and concrete vats, with minimal racking to preserve fruit purity. A light fining precedes filtration. Le Grand Verdus Rosé is aged for 4 months in stainless steel vats, protected from oxygen, on fine lees with bâtonnage and moderate sulphiting. Ageing for certain cuvées, such as the cuvée Génération, favours oak barrels that do not excessively impart wood flavours on the wine's aromatic profile.
