History and philosophy
The history of Château les Grands Sillons dates back to the 1920s, when Bertrand Thibeaut, the great-grandfather of the current owner, acquired the estate. The property has remained in the family ever since, passed down through five generations. Colette Dignac took over management in 1973. Since 2000, Stéphane Dignac has been at the helm of the estate, succeeding Philippe Dignac. The vineyard is committed to an environmentally friendly approach, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3 and ISO 14001 for environmental management.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château les Grands Sillons vineyard covers 2.81 hectares on the south-facing slope of the appellation. The soils are sandy, with a subsoil of iron pan known locally as "crasse de fer" or "alios". The vines have an average age of 40 years. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (80%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Pruning is carried out in single Guyot and weed control is entirely mechanical.
Flagship cuvées
The estate's flagship offering is the Château Les Grands Sillons cuvée, a red wine characterised by aromas of candied red berries and prune, layered with notes of vanilla and cocoa from oak ageing. On the palate, it delivers elegant roundness, fine fruity freshness, and supple tannins, giving it appealing ageing potential. Another cuvée, Château Les Grands Sillons Amodis, is also produced in AOC Pomerol.
Vinification and ageing
The harvest is carried out by hand with sorting on a sorting table. Maceration lasts 21 days in temperature-controlled vats, with two pump-overs per day during alcoholic fermentation. The wine is then aged in oak barrels (one-third renewed each year) for 12 to 14 months.
