Identity

Château Magence is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Saint-Pierre-de-Mons. The property belongs to the d'Antras family, with Count Jacques d'Antras identified as the owner. The technical management of the estate is overseen by oenologist Maud Amoureux.

History and philosophy

Château Magence has been run by the same family since the 18th century. As early as the end of the 18th century, Magence wines were marketed in the United States by Charles Brannens. An illustration on the estate's label is inspired by a Roman coin discovered on the property, bearing witness to the ancient history of the site. The estate is certified organic under the AB / Euro-leaf label.

The appellations

Château Magence produces wines under the Graves Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, notably in Graves Rouge.

Winemaking and ageing

For the red wines, maceration lasts between 21 and 30 days, followed by 18 months of ageing. For the white wines, ageing lasts 12 months. The 2014 vintage of Château Magence blanc was vinified in oak barrels. For the white wines, the estate has occasionally implemented pre-fermentation maceration after destemming to enhance aromatic extraction.
