The clay-limestone soils are well suited to Cabernet Franc and Merlot, while the fine gravel and gravelly sand suit Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate's main cuvée is Château Mauvesin Barton. The wines from this cuvée are crafted to deliver balance, suppleness, and distinct tannic quality. The estate also produces a second wine named L'Impression de Mauvesin Barton, sourced from the youngest plots in the vineyard. This cuvée is characterised by its fruit-forward character and approachable nature, ready to be enjoyed in its youth. Another cuvée, Canopée, is described as a wine of fresh fruit and immediate pleasure.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification is traditional, carried out in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, with long macerations and parcel-by-parcel fermentations. Meticulous berry sorting is performed. Ageing for Château Mauvesin Barton lasts 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, with approximately one-third new oak. These barrels rest on a bed of fine gravel to help regulate ambient humidity. For the cuvée L'Impression de Mauvesin Barton, ageing also takes place in French oak barrels for 12 months, primarily using seasoned casks.
