Identity

Château Nairac is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Barsac, in Gironde. It is owned by the Tari-Heeter family, notably represented by Nicole Tari and Tom Heeter. Oenology is handled by Valérie Lavigne, and the cellar master is Pietro Pastore.

History and Philosophy

The origin of Château Nairac's vineyard dates back to the 16th century, under the name of Bourdieu de Durancau. The neoclassical château known today was built by a family of wine merchants, with Jean Mollié, a pupil of Victor Louis, as architect, bearing witness to the architectural elegance of the 18th century. After belonging to the Nairac family from 1777 onwards, the estate was acquired in 1972 by the Tari family. The château underwent a renovation of its grounds in the 1990s. The estate is committed to an environmental certification process, having obtained HVE (High Environmental Value) certification and being in the process of Organic Farming (AB) certification.

The Appellations

Château Nairac is a second classified growth of Sauternes-Barsac according to the 1855 classification, and its wines are produced under the Barsac appellation. The estate's second wine, however, is marketed under the Sauternes appellation.

The Flagship Wines

The estate's grand vin, Château Nairac, is a still, sweet white wine, renowned for its ageing potential. The estate also produces a second wine, named Esquisse de Nairac.

Winemaking and Ageing

Château Nairac's wines are aged in barrels. For the grand vin, barrel ageing can extend over a period of 24 months.
