Identity

Château Nenin is a winegrowing estate established in Pomerol, owned by the Jean-Hubert Delon family. Éric Boissenot serves as consultant oenologist, while Michael Georges manages the property and Maxime Lerumeur is the cellar master.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Nenin dates back to the 18th century, when the Demay family owned the property. In the 19th century, the Paillet family took over, followed by the Despujol family in the 20th century through marriage. The château itself is a 19th-century building.

In 1997, Jean-Hubert Delon acquired the estate. Immediately upon purchase, substantial investments were made to upgrade the vineyard and facilities. These included the acquisition of 4 hectares of adjoining parcels, the reconstruction of the vat house, and the modernisation of the cellars. The Delon family continues to drive the development of Château Nenin.

Appellations

Château Nenin produces wines under the Pomerol appellation. The estate's historic parcels are located north of the village of Catusseau, north-east of Libourne.

The vineyard and terroir

The Château Nenin vineyard spans a planted area of 28 hectares. The soils feature a combination of gravel and clay, forming clay-gravel terroirs. The planting density is approximately 6,200 vines per hectare.

The grape varieties planted are predominantly Merlot (72%) and Cabernet Franc (25%), complemented by 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vines is 27 years. The estate carries out traditional vineyard management alongside integrated pest control (lutte raisonnée). Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Flagship cuvées

Château Nenin produces a red Grand Vin renowned for its ageing potential, characterised by a powerful, complex, and elegant style.

The estate also produces a second wine, Fugue de Nénin, created in 1997. This second wine comes from young vines planted on prime plateau terroirs and sandy-clay plots located in the eastern half of the vineyard.
