Identity
Château Pédesclaux is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, recognised in the 1855 classification. The estate is located in the commune of Pauillac and has been owned by the Lorenzetti family since 2009. Christophe Congé serves as Managing Director, alongside Cellar Master Stéphanie Roposte and consulting oenologist Éric Boissenot. Félix Pariente-Lorenzetti presides over the estate.
History and philosophy
Founded in 1810 by Urbain Pierre Pédesclaux, the estate passed through several families over the centuries. After belonging to the Comte de Gastebois from 1891, then to the Jugla family from 1951, Château Pédesclaux was acquired by the Lorenzetti family in 2009. This acquisition marked the beginning of a period of modernisation and development for the estate. Organic viticulture trials began in 2012, leading to official conversion in 2019 and organic certification with the 2022 vintage. The Lorenzetti family also undertook extensive renovations, notably constructing a new 100% gravity-fed vat house in 2014, designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Manon Lorenzetti became actively involved in the estate in 2018.

The average vine age is 35 years. The overall grape variety distribution is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), complemented by Merlot (27%), Cabernet Franc (7%), and Petit Verdot (3%). The estate farms organically across the entire vineyard, with select plots managed biodynamically. Harvesting is carried out by hand.
Flagship cuvées
The estate's grand vin is Château Pédesclaux. The second wine is Fleur de Pédesclaux. For the 2023 vintage, the Château Pédesclaux blend is dominated by Cabernet varieties, accounting for 80% of the composition. The 2023 Fleur de Pédesclaux blend is also Cabernet-dominant, with less than a third Merlot and 14% Petit Verdot.
Vinification and ageing
The estate boasts a 100% gravity-fed cellar, renovated in 2014. Ageing typically lasts between 14 and 16 months, using around 50% new oak barrels.
