Château Petit-Village is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Pomerol. It is owned by the Moulin family.
History and philosophy
The history of Château Petit-Village dates back to 1780. In 1919, Fernand Ginestet acquired the estate. The property was then bought by Axa Millésimes in 1989. Since 2020, it has been owned by the Moulin family. Château Petit-Village is currently undergoing organic certification.
Appellations
Château Petit-Village produces wines under the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard is situated on the upper part of the Pomerol plateau.
Winemaking and ageing
The wines of Château Petit-Village are aged in oak barrels. For the grand vin, ageing lasts between 16 and 18 months, with a proportion of new oak ranging from 60 to 70% depending on the vintage, or 30% new oak and 70% one-wine barrels for 16–18 months. Le Jardin de Petit-Village is aged entirely in one-wine barrels for 12 months.
Practical information
Château Petit-Village is located in Pomerol. Estate visits are available by appointment. Direct cellar-door sales are open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm. The estate offers neither accommodation, catering, nor mail-order sales.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Petit-Village vineyard spans 10.5 hectares and is characterised by a single, continuous triangular plot. The soils consist of clay-gravel, with rubefied gravels composed of quartz and flint over a clay subsoil that includes smectite (blue clay). The grape varieties planted are Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (20%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). The average age of the vines is 35 years. Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Château Petit-Village produces several cuvées. The grand vin is Château Petit-Village, a Pomerol red wine whose blend is predominantly Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate also produces a second wine, Le Jardin de Petit-Village, crafted exclusively from Merlot.
