Château Phélan Ségur, a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in Saint-Estèphe, is owned by the Philippe Van de Vyvere family. Certified HVE, the estate produces wines across 70 hectares of vineyards planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties.

Identity
Château Phélan Ségur is located in the commune of Saint-Estèphe in Gironde. It has been owned by the Philippe Van de Vyvere family since 2018. Véronique Dausse serves as Managing Director, alongside consultant oenologist Julien Viaud and cellar master Fabrice Bacquey.
History and philosophy
The estate was founded at the beginning of the 19th century by Bernard O’Phelan. After having been owned by the Gardinier family, Château Phélan Ségur was acquired by Philippe Van de Vyvere in 2018. The estate is committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE).

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Phélan Ségur vineyard covers a planted area of 70 hectares within a 114-hectare property. The average vine age is 35 years. The terroir is characterised by clay-gravel soils. The grape variety distribution comprises 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot. Harvesting is carried out by hand.
Flagship cuvées
The estate’s principal wine is Château Phélan Ségur. The second wine is Frank Phélan. Another cuvée produced is Fée aux Roses.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification is carried out using plot-selected indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged for 18 months, with the use of 55% new oak barrels.
