Château Plaisance is a winegrowing estate located in Macau, in the Gironde department. The property is owned by Jean-Louis and Isabelle Chollet.

History and Philosophy

The vineyard was reconstituted in 1991 by the current owners. Château Plaisance is committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, employing manual harvesting.

The Appellations

The estate produces wines under the Bordeaux Supérieur, Montagne-Saint-Émilion and Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellations.

Practical Information

Château Plaisance is located at 93 Chemin du Bord de l’Eau, 33460 Macau. Visits are available by appointment, welcoming both newcomers and seasoned wine enthusiasts. Meetings, tours and tastings can also be arranged for professionals upon request. The cellar door is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The Vineyard (Terroir)

The Château Plaisance vineyard spans an area of 10 hectares, within an overall estate of 13 hectares. The soils consist of alluvial deposits, known as palus, and Pyrenean gravels. It is situated on the edge of the Margaux appellation. The average age of the vines is 20 years, with a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare. The average yield is 45 hectolitres per hectare. The red grape varieties are composed of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Petit Verdot (10%).

Flagship Cuvées

The red wines of Château Plaisance generally display a structure shaped by ageing in French oak barrels, which imparts woody notes that complement the fruity aromas of the grape varieties. The dominant Merlot blend tends to confer roundness and suppleness, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot generally provide aromatic complexity and ageing potential.
