Identity

Château Saint-Hilaire is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Queyrac, in Gironde. It is owned by EARL Uijttewaal A. et F., representing the Uijttewaal family.

History and philosophy

The story of Château Saint-Hilaire began in 1982 when Adrien Uijttewaal established the estate. The first on-site vinification took place in 1995. Fabienne Uijttewaal is also actively involved in managing the estate. In 2017, Elise Uijttewaal, representing the new generation, joined the team, followed by her partner Adrien in 2021. The estate is committed to environmentally friendly practices, holding Haute Valeur Environnementale certification and adhering to the TERRA VITIS philosophy. Alongside viticulture, the estate also raises 180 Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle, an activity certified by La Signature des Éleveurs Girondins.

Appellations

The estate produces wines under the Médoc Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.

Practical information

Château Saint-Hilaire is open for visits throughout the year. From 1 September to 30 June, tours are available by appointment from Monday to Saturday. During the summer period, from 1 July to 31 August, visits by appointment take place from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 18:00. The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard of Château Saint-Hilaire extends over 45 hectares, spread across three communes. The terroirs are diverse, featuring gravel knolls along the estuary banks in Jau Dignac Loirac, clay-rich soils in Queyrac, and deep gravels in Valeyrac. The grape varieties planted include Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as reflected in the blends of recent vintages.

Château Saint-Hilaire offers several signature cuvées:

Château Saint-Hilaire

Created in 1995, this cuvée has been classified as a Cru Bourgeois since the 2003 vintage. It is distinguished by its elegance and ageing potential. The blends of recent vintages are predominantly made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Château Gémeillan

First created in 2006, this cuvée has also been recognised as a Cru Bourgeois since the 2009 vintage. It stands out for its generous, supple style, shaped by its barrel ageing.

Inattendu

Presented as an easy-drinking "glou-glou" wine, this cuvée is designed to be fresh and fruit-forward, crafted without oak ageing.

Le Blanc de Noir de Saint-Hilaire

This is an original white wine crafted exclusively from black Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

Vinification and ageing

The Château Saint-Hilaire cuvée is aged for twelve months in French oak barrels. The Château Gémeillan cuvée also benefits from one year of ageing in French oak barrels. For vinification, the estate works alongside consultant oenologist Eric Boissenot.
