Château Sérilhan

Château Sérilhan is a family-run winegrowing estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Managed by Didier Marcellis, it cultivates 24 hectares of HVE3-certified vines, with grape varieties dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. Ageing is carried out in oak barrels.

Château Sérilhan is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Saint-Estèphe.
History and philosophy
The history of Château Sérilhan is defined by a family heritage dating back to Louis Merlet, grandfather of the current owner, who acquired the property in 1832. The estate was managed by Louis Merlet from 1983 to 2002. In January 2003, his grandson Didier Marcellis took over the reins of the château. From 2003 onwards, major modernisations were carried out in the vat room and cellar.
The estate is committed to environmentally friendly practices. In 2018, it achieved Level 3 High Environmental Value certification (HVE3). An apiary was established in the heart of the estate in 2020.

The estate offers cellar-door sales and tastings. Visits are available by appointment from July to August. Mail-order sales are also available.

The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard of Château Sérilhan extends over 24 hectares, planted predominantly with red grape varieties. The average age of the vines is around 35 years. The soils of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, where the château's plots are located, are characterised by gravel and limestone. One parcel of the estate is situated in the lieu-dit of Pez. Maximum production is capped at 50 hectolitres per hectare.
The estate's grape varieties consist of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Merlot (35%), and Cabernet Franc (8%).
Flagship cuvées
The estate's principal wine is the red Château Sérilhan. It contains a significant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc. This blend gives it a profile marked by nuances of Cabernets and Merlot.
Vinification and ageing
Harvesting is carried out by hand. Ageing for the main cuvée takes place in barrels for 16 months. The barrel inventory was renewed in 1998.
